Coming Home to Kansas

OSD

As it happens, I'm going to be in Kansas the week of Old Settler's day. I know Jen is having her reunion...are you going? I was thinking of heading up to Salina for the Land Institute Prairie Festival, but that seems less and less likely.

Eliza is having her tenth year reunion. I think it's telling of the different ways that we felt about high school that I was way the hell out of the country for ours, and she is making a special trip all the way from Madison to go to hers. Not that I don't completely value our friendships, guys.

Hey, Hannah, I'm going to be back in Kansas on OSD weekend, too! Honestly, I'm just plain homesick for my folks' place, and I haven't had a proper trip 'home' since Xmas. So I'll be hanging out then.

Katie's going, too, and I kind of wish I could go, because I miss Kansas, and you guys, too.

I really regret not going to our 10th, because at the time, I was unemployed and depressed in Alabama. I totally could have swung the trip, and it would have lifted my spirits to see old friends. So I am making a pact now. 15 is not going by without me.

I didn't go to our 10th. I was pregnant with Ian and feeling that horrible never ending nausea. I really didn't have much of a desire to stand and watch people drink beer and eat food that I was going to eat anyway. The site of food tended to make me nauseaous. I have no regrets about that. I didn't enjoy the 5 year much (maybe because I'd had Robynn a few weeks earlier). Besides most of my friends wouldn't have been there anyway. Except for you Lesley! We might be at OSD because by that time I will be done working at SmartStyle for good, so no more working weekends for me!

I often envy my mom's high school reunions because all of her life friends were/are actually in her class, so they can always plan on getting together at the same time. It's funny, but I have sort of forgotten who's even in one class vs another because I have so few friends in my own (except Sarah, of course, and Kristine!) They should have reunions for, say, anyone who graduated in the 90s, 80s, etc. I mean, it's MARION -- that would maybe make the turnout the size of a normal high school reunion.

I'm coming!!! I hadn't really considered it until Lesley offered me a ride down, and I thought, "of course I can't get away," and then I wanted to do it more than anything, so I figured out a flight arrangement that wouldn't cause me to miss much school.

I'm so excited!

you know, i hadn't planned on being in Marion that weekend... but i am now! I'll plan on being there on the evening of friday, the 29th... if anyone will be around then and wants to get together, let me know!
i'm going down to marion this weekend for Art In The Park... Aunt Janet and I have a booth! She's making pillowcases for kids; they have looped ribbons on the edging... VERY cute! And i'm making glass marble magnets... so far, i have over 300 made! But i'll be sure to reserve a few of the very good ones for you all... Hope they sell like candy this weekend... wish me luck!

WOO hoo! I am so excited! I will be arriving rather late on Friday night-- not until 8 or 9. We should figure out where we want to meet up on Saturday.

Aw, this reminds me of some pictures I have of an OSD *AGES* ago when we some of us met up before the parade at Catie's....

I'm coming in Thursday night and leaving Sunday morning/afternoon.

Bring all the old pictures you can!

Would now be the time for a memorial for Mariah?

Yes, I was thinking about that. By the way, I called and left message at LeAnn's this morning. I hope she can make it this time!

Catie, I forgot to say earlier, good luck at Art in the Park! Sounds fun. That's a weekend I always miss in Marion, too. Pure nostalgia.

Yay! I can't wait.

I was just in the car listening to the radio, and the song that we listened to in Gambino's was on, the one by the Spin Doctors. Timely.

Um, could we maybe go to Gambinos? I know their pizza is not the greatest in the world, but I love it simply because of the memories I have of us spending time there!

I think the homecoming football game is that Friday, too. Talk about recreating some old times. Remember when we used to eat Mexican food at the Owl Car before the games? I am getting in somewhat late on Friday, but I would be up for joining those of you around by then to hang out. Is Gambino's really still open?

Paula says that on Friday, the country club will be open for people to stop by and socialize. I actually wouldn't mind doing that, in case any other '94 peeps are home, too. (I'm thinking more along the lines of Kayla, Renee, Danielle, etc, instead of, say, Chris Helmer.)

But later, because I'm making dinner for my fam.
