Aw, reading your post makes me so happy, Catie! It makes me glad to read about all of the artistic, cool things you do. In fact, you and everyone here inspire me to remember things I used to do -- like drawing, especially -- that I haven't done in years. Now, because of the creative forces at work on this blog, I picked up my sketch pad last week. I was thinking that we've been regretting things we did or didn't do in the past -- well, I think this blog has also helped me remember who I used to be, and how I can recapture the good in that. Thanks, Catie! Your post is lovely. Now I want to learn Italian, too!

OH! Also meant to add that I LOVE The Mad Greek, too! Have some flaming cheese for me.
And is La Parilla that restaurant across from Borders, or around there? Am I thinking of the right one?

I always hated the favorite book question until I read "Corelli's Mandolin," by De Bernieres. The movie was only worth watching for the scenery, but the book, oh! the book! Stunning.

That's all I got.

I don't read as much anymore, now that I'm driving to work instead of riding the train, plus the libraries here suck, and I don't buy books.

We ate at a Jason's deli with my parents this summer...cool.

Lesley, I too have been inspired by this. Only mine has been writing and gardening since I have long since accepted my complete lack of aesthetic and/or artistic talent. It still pains me to admit it however.

Oh yeah...it's inspired my cooking too. I've been making our bread lately on occasion, which is time-consuming but satisfying.

Aw, I live across the street (highway, really) from Jason's Deli. That makes me feel closer to you! (I like their frozen yogurt machine.)

My creativity outlets now are definitely cooking, and crafty things. I wish someone would hire me as their personal chef.

Right now I'm copying a necklace that I saw and loved in the Anthropologie catalog, only it costs $380 there. I figure I can make it for under $50. Right now I cut big circles out of a tin sheet and am hammering them into medallions. I'll surely post a picture when I'm done, I'll be so proud of it.

I'm trying to master batik-ing, too.

I taught myself knitting a while back, but I get super bored with it.

I've gotten back into writing a lot with my blog. I'd rather treat it as short story exercises than a "this is what I did today" thing.

Yes, I always hate the favorite book question, too -- mainly b/c I always end up saying something different every time, and then it's ALWAYS something everyone likes anyway. Not too original. BUT I thought about some of the novels I've read (note this is over the past 5-10 years). Here's the good:
Memoir/Writing/Non-Fiction:
Annie Dillard, THE WRITING LIFE
Amy Blackmarr, GOING TO GROUND
Annie Lamott
Natalie Goldberg, WRITING DOWN the BONES

Novels/other fiction:
Leslie Marmon Silko's CEREMONY George Eliot's MIDDLEMARCH
Toni Morrison, esp. SONG of SOLOMON
James Baldwin, his short stories and essays
Paolo Coehlo's THE ALCHEMIST
John Irving's A PRAYER for OWEN MEANY (this is definitely Topher's favorite book)
&
JANE EYRE (I just read this two years ago for the first time! Jean Rhys' WIDE SARGASSO SEA, too)

And of course, I love Middle English romance and literature, 'cause of my professional dork-dom.

Guilty Pleasure reading?
Harry Potter, of course! (My favorite is the third one because Sirius and Lupin are my favorite characters...)
Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER series (Have any of you read these? they are awesome and soooo addictive. And I think she writes sex scenes better than Marion Zimmer Bradley.)

As for hobbies, I think I need one. I've been pretty work-obsessed for the past few years, and like I mentioned earlier, it has made me forget about the things I love to do, just for me. I'm trying to start drawing again. And writing non-school related things. And I do love baking (I'm better at this than cooking, so when we get together, I'll do dessert!) I also enjoying garage sales, jazzercise (yes, you read that right), lunching and martini-ing with friends at favorite restaurants. And blogging!

Two things the young Lesley would never have said:

martini-ing and sex scenes.

I love it! You are so free now. Which reminds me and my crass little brain, my favorite word?

Pussy. Love it, own it, shout it from the rooftops!

Please blam my brashness on the late hour and the fact that I've spent most of the day editing wedding pictures!

Les~ mmmmmmmm... mad greek... i am in love with their gyros... green beans and potatoes... i might make dave take me there for our anniversary. :)
and la parilla... it's actually on Mass St, next to Juicy Juice and across from Penny Annie's Candy Store *which i used to live above...yikes... but that's another story*. They have the best chicken chimichangas. Maybe i'll make dave take me there for my birthday! :)

Ellie and LeAnn~ Jason's Deli's free ice cream... could you ask for anything more? The first time i went there, mariah and brian took me. I remember thinking "this is the life... jason's deli and it's right next door to Restoration Hardware". Thought about moving there for a split second... and then came to my senses and remembered that it was in WICHITA. ICK. So, thank goodness for chains... We hit the Jason's in Lawrence and Lenexa all the time. :)

Pussy is not my favorite word...but isnĀ“t good healthy sex beautiful? I love being an adult.

Don{t know why I had to say that.

It's not so much the word, but the ownership of it. The power that comes from knowing it. The right you have to it.

And yes, being an adult is awesome.
