11 years
Okay, I´ll go ahead and jump in, since I haven´t got much to do today...I´ve been laying around the Peace Corps flophouse for a few hours.
11 years has gone in a blink of the eye and I still feel 18 in body and 5 or so in soul. I´m still dreaming about the perfect sustainable ecological peaceful life, and there have been points in the last years that I´ve felt that I almost accomplished it. I got my BFA in printmaking, worked on organic farms, traveled, had some decent love affairs and adventures, I´m six months away from wrapping up Peace Corps. Now I just want to settle in somewhere in the upper midwest and work for some good cause...organic farming or montessori teaching, working with refugees in chicago or managing a produce department? I don´t know yet. And I want to make quilts. Ellie and Tim get the next one, and then maybe I´ll be good enough to sell some. I have some pictures, but being the luddite that I am, I don´t know how to put them up here.
In high school I really was looking forward to college because I thought there would be activism on campus like what my dad described(among other things.) And it was a little disappointing to find that that had died out. But I´ve discovered that true activism is much harder and less glamorous and quieter, but ultimately more satisfying. And it can be as simple as parenting well, as I´m sure those of you with kids are doing.
Speaking of families, Eliza´s getting married in May to the guy, Ben, that I´ve been thinking of as part of the family for at least four years. She´s going to be a gynacologist, and I´m so proud of her. Hallie´s planning on moving to LA to be with her boyfriend, who does something with fashion. I´m proud of her too, but sad that she´s going so far away.
Well, it´s a lovely rainy day here in this colonial city. I´ve become an avowed cloud worshipper. You guys would love all the different types of clouds here...they come crawling over the mountains and take over the little towns where I work and live. It makes me want to put on a long flowy dress and climb up on the highest peak possible and get in touch with God. Told you I´m still a dreamer.
So, I´d love to hear what you´re all up to as well. Cuentanos!
Besos,
hannah

I'm not going to lie about it: I can't wait for my quilt! And I hope you find your dream job in Chicago so we can be neighbors someday.
